Dearest sponsors,
We have come to the end of Term 3 of our academic year. This was truly a very eventful and busy term. We are happy to share the following updates in terms of the ECD, the Primary and Secondary School and the Children’s Village.
ECD:
The staff at the ECD went over and above to celebrate the children’s heritage on South African Heritage Day, welcoming spring on Spring Day and then of course the annual Careers Day. The children dressed up as anything from police officers, firemen and doctors to teachers and ballet dancers.
Not only did they have lovely celebratory days at the ECD; they also visited the nature reserve, fire station and Giraffe House where they were able to see a real giraffe. The ECD are now offering an educational setting to more than 100 learners. A much-needed Afrikaans class was also started to cater for the needs of the community. We are so happy to see all the little ones settling in and enjoying the lovely grounds and beautiful classrooms. They regularly post events on the Hope and Light Early Childhood Development Facebook Page for you to enjoy.
School:
The school had their first hugely successful fundraiser the past month. They had a fun family day of food stalls, jumping castles and cart racing. It was enjoyed by all and it was lovely seeing so many families at the school, especially after the restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The girls and boys also participated in netball and soccer matches against two other schools in the area. We are looking forward to the see the sport portfolio growing at the school to include various sport and outdoor activities.
A Junior Performing Art Showcase also took place where our Grade R – Grade 3 learners showcased what they have learned at the extramural drama and dance classes. They have worked very hard for this and we are extremely proud of them.
Our graduating class (Grade 12) are in the final stretch before the end-of-year exams. They deserve their last celebratory event. The annual matric dance will be taking place on 7 October at Goedeverwachting Estate – an opportunity to get dressed in their best for one night and to forget about the hard work that lies ahead.
Children’s Village:
The Child and Youth Care Centre is happy to welcome the newly appointed social worker, Hayden Damon. We wish her all the best here at Hope and Light. The children are enjoying their newly renovated outdoor area. The older children have been given the opportunity to have monthly surfing lessons – a real highlight to their week!
We would like to thank all our sponsors from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for investing in our children’s future, giving them hope, making their dreams a reality and to continue believing in them.
Please find attached your sponsored learner’s school report for Term 3.
Best wishes
